ColorAized memories

AI powered Analog experiments

Since my first steps in photography almost 20 years ago, I have been exploring the hidden graffiti pieces of Carlsbad with my parents’ analog compact camera. It was probably more due to my infantile fascination with vivid spray colors flavored with illegality, than real desire for exploring street art culture through the camera viewfinder.

But graffiti introduced me to the world of street art, and street art has attracted me ever since. A special phenomenon of illegal artistic expression, which in certain circumstances and the attainment of certain qualities can convince the majority society of its own legitimacy.

The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.

Since then, on all my travels, I have been looking for cities where street art festivals take place as well as unofficial places with a high concentration of street art. And it was probably very lucky coincidence that I was chosen to shoot the first street art festival Wallz in Pilsen.

Documenting Wallz was a lot of fun for me. Although it was a very diverse and demanding photo session, I really enjoyed the whole festival. The amazing atmosphere and even more amazing people showed me a whole new dimension of this street artistic world…

Wallz not only brought a lot of colorful pieces to the gray streets of Pilsen … but also brought me a personal desire to learn more about this form of art… to examine it in detail… and to document it and the artists themselves.
